Off the wall thoughts from the FCS tech. guy

If you haven't checked out Phil Vischer's book Me, Myself, & Bob, find it and read it. It really is thought provoking. Here are some of the highlights:

   • Junior Asparagus has a really cute voice.
   • God will change our direction if necessary.
   • Waiting for God is not part of our nature – but life is much better when we learn that discipline.
   • God doesn't want great, change the world kind of things from us, he just wants us!
   • When we wait on God & give ourselves to Him sometimes great, change the world kinds of things happen.
   • Sometimes they don't, and that's ok.

I had a thought today as I drove to work. Let me start this entry by saying that I've been reading Phil Vischer's book Me, Myself, & Bob. Phil is the founder/creator of the Veggie Tales video series & has an incredible story to tell. Of course I was intrigued by his knowledge & use of technology & music – those are my two major interests. Of course there is fly fishing too, and to a lesser degree cycling, but those really don't have anything to do with the book I was reading. Mainly I'm enthralled with his story.

The story he presents in Me, Myself, & Bob is one of tremendous success, and catastrophic failure in a life focused on a mission/calling of God. Phil created the Veggie Tales franchise, which is devoted to providing quality entertainment with a positive Christ focused message. That sounds really good right?

So I had a thought today as I drove to work: Life is hard. Even when we are doing what God has called us too. Furthermore, God's calling doesn't necessarily mean everything we do is going to meet with success. Pretty depressing, huh?

I've been reading in Genesis the past month or so. In chapter 15 God makes a covenant with Abram. He tells Abram to get some animals, cut them in two, and arrange them just so on the ground. So Abram obeys God. Then he waits. And waits. And waits some more. Pretty soon the vultures are coming down on his split carcasses and he has to beat them off with a stick (I made that stick part up). If I were Abram at this point I would wonder what was going on. God's made some promises and then sent me out to make a bloody mess of some of my best livestock. And all I have to show for it are some scratches where that big buzzard over there tried to taste me and the spoiled meat laying just so on the ground.

So I had a thought today as I drove to work: Life is hard.

Sometimes we have to fight our way through the buzzards to wait on God.

Sometimes you find termites in your house and have to deal with them.

Sometimes the big bad company wants to hold you to a contract you never signed, and take the money you don't have. And the courts say they can.

Sometimes God allows us difficult things to help us rely on Him more. Sometimes we need a nudge in a different direction.

So I had a thought today as I drove to work: Life is hard. But God is always good, and His goodness is enough.
